Brilliance. Our beautiful game is filled with it in so many ways; tactical, physical, skillful, confrontational. The beautiful game I speak of is none other than football – or soccer as it is sometimes ‘unfortunately’ termed.
Technology has played a large part in the development of this brilliance, with both ball and boot going through substantial advancements in materials and design. Now the Nike design team has developed a way to integrate the traditional tactile touch of leather with their new pioneering advancements such as the Dynamic Fit collars and Flyknit fabric technology. The result is a premium collection of hybrid leather boots: Nike Tech Craft. Nike Tech Craft strategically places a thin layer of leather in high ball-contact areas (the medial and lateral sides of the forefoot) on each of Nike’s four football boot styles — Hypervenom, Magista, Mercurial and Tiempo.
There is something about leather that connects you with the footballing greats of times past; with the aroma of dubbin and fresh grass left in their wake as they mesmerize opponents with their leather appendages.
“Tech Craft encompasses our ‘no-compromise’ philosophy. Players don’t have to choose between materials like Flyknit and leather; they can have the benefits of both in one premium pair of boots.”
– Nathan Van Hook, Nike Football Senior Design Director.
For those ‘nostalgics’ among us, it also gives us an option to engage with the future of football without feeling like we’re cheating on our footballing past.
