Liverpool FC Foundation x NIVEA MEN

If I told you that Clarence Seedorf, Steven Gerrard, Luis Figo, Ian Rush, Roberto Carlos and John Aldridge were on the pitch in the same match, you would think I was talking about the frighteningly popular game FIFA; yet this actually took place, and Anfield provided the magnanimous backdrop. Furthermore this only happened last month.

As you would expect, it would take something of great magnitude to bring the stars of times past – some more past than others – together for a head-to-head that (previously) dreams were made of. The cause was the Liverpool FC Foundation, a charity that creates life changing opportunities for children and young people in Merseyside and beyond.

"Young people are our future and they need support and chances so we should do eveRything that we can do."

~ Jurgen Klopp

Partnered by Nivea Men the LFC Foundation created the ultimate fund raising spectacle; Liverpool FC Legends versus Real Madrid CF Legends. In actuality this was not the first time these vintage “Galacticos” had combined for a good cause, as in 2015 a team of Liverpool Legends journeyed to the fabled Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for a match of equally epic proportions in what was dubbed “a game of 15 European cups” by the Spanish media.

But there was no ‘Stevie G’ playing that time round, and coupled with the back story of Ronnie Morran’s passing the event also marked the return of Liverpool’s favourite son to Anfield, and in typical fashion he delivered. It was his first game playing at the new Anfield and Gerrard played like he wanted to make a point finishing a trademark lung-busting performance with 3 assists and a goal as Liverpool FC Legends came out 4-3 winners on the day.

This performance earned him the accolade of Nivea Men Man of the Match, and yet another monument to add to his groaning awards cabinet. He was in fact one of many stars that shone in an exhibition of class over endeavour as the majestic Luis Figo sauntered past players with his usual ease, while Seedorf performed like a player that had retired far too soon, with vision that would make you think he was merely acting out a script he had pre-written for the game.

The improved formulas contain Aloe Vera and Pro Vitamin B5 and feature a new more masculine scent. It is based on a fougère accord, complemented by amber, marine, woody, and musky notes.

In truth in a game like this, there were no losers as both sets of players and fans alike enjoyed a rewarding philanthropic spectacle under the Merseyside sun, safely in the knowledge that their enjoyment was not in vain, but rather the fuel for many young individuals to hopefully one day become greats themselves, regardless of their chosen vocation.
